When running online ads, it's always a great idea to check the work of other advertisers in your industry to get ideas for your own campaigns. Thankfully, most major advertising platforms have ad transparency libraries where you can research ads and creatives by type, date, and country.
In this post, I’ll review the ad libraries from some well-known advertising platforms.
1. X (Twitter) Ads Repository
X.com offers a limited resource for searching advertisements on its network. You can search ads by an advertiser’s Twitter handle, choose a country, and select a time range, generating a CSV report. However, the report lacks visuals of the creative elements, making it less useful for generating ad ideas.
The available countries are limited, and major markets like the U.S. and Canada are excluded, which hampers its research utility. Additionally, the report generation is quite slow compared to today’s standards, taking a few minutes to export, which can be frustrating when doing research.
2. Pinterest Ads Repository
The Pinterest ads repository offers a similar experience to X.com, as it only allows you to search for ads in European countries. I assume this limitation is due to some obligation in the European Union that requires advertising platforms to disclose ads to the public, which is why the search is restricted to EU countries.
You can search for ads by country, gender, and age group, and the advertiser name field offers a helpful dropdown with all available advertisers. One of the most useful features is the ability to view all available creatives without even having to run a search. Clicking the "Details" button on each creative reveals targeting information such as the ad’s active dates, target demographics, and countries.
Overall, Pinterest's ad repository can be a valuable tool for competitor research if you're planning to run ads on the platform.
3. Reddit Ads Library
Reddit’s library showcases top-performing ads, focusing on educating advertisers. You can search for ads by keyword, which is helpful if you're looking for specific industries or niches.
Unique filters include advertiser budget, ad format, and placement. You can hover over a creative to view a “details” section that explains why an ad performed well, which is useful for inspiration and learning from successful campaigns.
4. LinkedIn Ad Library
LinkedIn offers a highly practical ad library where you can search by company name or keyword across all countries, including the U.S. and Canada. You can view full ad copy, creative, and even access the landing page by clicking "View Details."
LinkedIn’s ad library is particularly helpful for competitor research, especially for B2B marketers looking to design effective ads on the platform.
5. TikTok Ads Library
TikTok’s ads library allows users to search for ads in European countries, similar to other platforms. You can select a target location and search by an advertiser’s name or a specific keyword to find inspiration across various industries.
For example, if you're looking for ads related to a specific industry—like fashion—you can easily perform a search to see a wide range of creatives in that category.
By clicking on the ad, you can view more details, including the targeted country, gender, age group, and audience, along with the estimated unique reach.
6. Snapchat Ads Gallery
Snapchat’s Ads Gallery allows you to search ads in European Union countries from the past 12 months. To search, you need to know the exact advertiser name. Once found, the platform provides details about the targeted country, demographics, and total impressions.
In addition to ads, Snapchat also features commercial content, which isn’t traditional advertising but promoted content by brands or individuals.
7. Facebook (Meta) Ad Library
Meta’s Facebook Ad Library is a powerful tool for researching ads on Facebook and Instagram. You can search ads by keyword or advertiser name and filter results by country and category.
By clicking on the details of each ad, you can view the full creative, including the headline, description, and even the CTA (call-to-action) button, which links to the landing page. This makes the Meta Ads Library an excellent resource for competitor research and for gathering inspiration for your own campaigns.
8. Google Ads Transparency Center
Google’s Ads Transparency Center allows you to explore ads across various Google platforms, including Google Search, YouTube, Google Shopping, Google Maps, and Google Play. You can search for ads by typing an advertiser’s name or website and filter results by country.
The platform provides insights into different ad formats, including text, image, and video ads. By clicking on a video ad, for example, you can watch the full creative used in the advertisement. This makes Google’s Ads Transparency Center a valuable resource for competitor research, helping you understand how others are crafting their ad copy, designing images, and creating video ads.
9. Microsoft Ads Library
Microsoft’s Ads Library focuses on ads shown on Bing and offers a similar experience to Google’s ad library. However, it’s limited to European countries.
Most advertisers use the same creatives and ad copy across both Google and Microsoft Ads, making this library less critical if you already research on Google.
Ad libraries are a great resource for competitor research, creative inspiration, and understanding the ad landscape on various platforms. While some platforms like X and Microsoft have limited use, others like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Google provide robust tools for analyzing successful ad campaigns.
These libraries can help you stay competitive by informing your strategies and offering insight into what works in your industry.
